For the first time in the history of independent India, the Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicated to the nation a true Education Policy (NEP 2020) that rightfully balances the Indian ethos with best learning ideas/ practices from across the globe. NEP aims to transform India into a global knowledge superpower by making education more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, suited to 21st Century needs and geared toward bringing out the unique capabilities of each student. NEP 2020 recognizes the crucial role of Foundational skills in the national development. With this aim, a National Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Mission is to be launched to ensure that every child in the country attains foundational literacy and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27. In this context, a National Mission called “National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat)” is being set up by the Ministry of Education in order to create an enabling environment to ensure the universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy. It is a matter of great pleasure for me that the School Education Department of Tripura has developed, as a part of NIPUN Bharat , a comprehensive preparatory Module , namely VidyaSetu to bridge the gap among the newly admitted tiny toddlers of Class I ,coming from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. I believe that with the active support of all the stakeholders , we will make the mission a grand success in Tripura and fulfill the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister .
